Toyota And Braun Donate Wheelchair-accessible Vehicle To Paralyzed Veterans Of America
12-13-2010
Toyota Motor Sales USA and the Braun Corporation, recently announced the donation of a 2011 Toyota Sienna with a BraunAbility Rampvan® XT conversion, to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

PRLog (Press Release) – Dec 06, 2010 – ALEXANDRIA, V.A. – Toyota Motor Sales USA and the Braun Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of wheelchair-accessible vans and wheelchair lifts, recently announced the donation of a 2011 Toyota Sienna with a BraunAbility Rampvan® XT conversion, to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA).

Paul Holdridge, the Central Atlantic Toyota Regional Vice President and General Manager and Greg Kiser, BraunAbility Regional General Manager presented the 2011 Toyota Sienna Rampvan® XT to the PVA at Jack Taylor’s Alexandria Toyota. The Sienna Rampvan will serve as one of the primary transport vehicles for members of the PVA’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“Toyota Motor Sales has had a long relationship with the Paralyzed Veterans of America and has been a contributing sponsor of the PVA’s annual wheelchair games since 2004, which showcases paralyzed veterans competing in Olympic style events. Today’s vehicle donation marks the second time Toyota has donated a wheelchair accessible converted Sienna to the PVA and we are honored to be able to support the brave men and women who have served our country” said Mark Oldenburg, Toyota’s National Fleet Marketing and Mobility Manager.

“BraunAbility takes great pleasure in donating the 2011 Toyota Sienna Rampvan® XT to the Paralyzed Veterans of America,” said Kiser. “The PVA’s commitment to maximizing its members’ quality of life parallels BraunAbility’s passion for increasing personal mobility for physically disabled Americans, especially our disabled veterans, across the country.”

The 2011 Rampvan was introduced to the U.S. market earlier this year. In partnership with Toyota Mobility, which provides financial assistance and a variety of mobility solutions that meet the transportation needs of Americans with disabilities, Braun converts Sienna Rampvans to offer mobility to wheelchair users, either as the driver, front seat passenger, or second row passenger. The vehicle features a lowered floor which provides a 56” high door opening, an automatic door and side-entry ramp, and four wheelchair securement positions.

“On behalf of Paralyzed Veterans of America, thank you to Toyota Motor Sales and BraunAbility, for their generous donation of a fully accessible wheelchair van,” said Bill Lawson, National President of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. “The van will assist us in our mission to serve the special needs of our members—veterans of the armed forces who live with spinal cord injury or dysfunction.”

The Toyota dealership in Alexandria will complete any necessary service and warranty work on the Toyota chassis, while BraunAbility’s local mobility dealer, Ride-Away, will service the BraunAbility conversion.

About Toyota

Toyota (NYSE: TM) established operations in the United States in 1957 and currently operates 10 manufacturing plants, including one under construction. Toyota directly employs nearly 30,000 in the U.S. and its investment here is currently valued at more than $18 billion, including sales and manufacturing operations, research and development, financial services and design.

About The Braun Corporation

The Braun Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vans, ramps, and wheelchair lifts worldwide and enables people with physical disabilities to regain mobility and lead active and independent lives. The Indiana-based company was founded by Ralph Braun, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age and unable to walk by age 15. Ralph was motivated by his disability to invent the world’s first electric scooter (the Tri-Wheeler) and wheelchair lift (the Lift-A-Way) in his parents’ garage. Word spread and demand for the product increased, resulting in the birth of Save-A-Step Manufacturing, which ultimately became The Braun Corporation. The company, via the BraunAbility brand, offers the most diverse model lineup in the industry, including the most popular minivan models from Dodge/Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota. For more information about the Braun Corporation or our outstanding line of wheelchair accessible vehicles, please visit www.braunability.com.

About Paralyzed Veterans of America

Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a band of spinal cord injured service members who returned home from World War II to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they faced. They made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created Paralyzed Veterans of America, dedicated to veterans service, medical research and civil rights for people with disabilities. And for more than 64 years, Paralyzed Veterans and our 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to thrive. We represent thousands of veterans in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Ride-Away Vice President Jaime Kuczewski Named Young Professional of the Year
12-06-2010
Helping others comes naturally to Jaime Kuczewski, vice president of Ride-Away Handicap Equipment Corporation, making her a natural choice as Business NH Magazine’s Young Professional of the Year. The award honors a professional age 40 and under who demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities and a commitment to community service. Kuczewski was presented with the award during a recent ceremony at the Red River Theatres in Concord.

Her leadership skills became evident a year after her 2006 arrival at Ride-Away, the nation’s largest provider of wheelchair-accessible vehicles and adaptive equipment for people with disabilities. When four of the company’s top executives were dismissed, Kuczewski stepped up to fill the void, overseeing the organization’s marketing and IT departments, as well as managing its human resources department.

“Jaime became a real leader during this challenging period, working tirelessly to help move the company forward so we could serve the critical mobility needs of our customers,” says Ride-Away President Mark Lore. “She is an excellent role model who challenges all Ride-Away employees to be the best they can be and to make a difference in the communities they live and work in. Her efforts have had a major impact on the lives of both our customers and employees.”

Within a year of rising to these challenges, Kuczewski increased the company’s charitable giving and encouraged employees at Ride-Away’s 12 East Coast locations to volunteer with local non-profit organizations and at charitable events. Ride-Away now has an 85 percent employee volunteerism rate, with employees having donated more than 7,000 hours of volunteer time in their local communities. In addition, Ride-Away employees pledged $21,000 this year alone to local United Way campaigns. The company also contributes 10 percent of its annual earnings to non-profit organizations and has donated wheelchair-accessible vans to individuals with disabilities who were in dire need of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Kuczewski enjoys fostering the company’s focus on giving and encouraging Ride-Away employees to get involved in supporting local charitable causes. In 2008, she initiated the Comfort for a Cause program, which allows employees to wear jeans to work by donating $5 to the program each day they wear jeans. Since its inception, Comfort for a Cause has raised more than $7,000 to support local families and organizations that are in need.

“After Ride-Away’s corporate donations were made for the year, I wondered what would happen to other individuals and organizations that also needed help,” says Kuczewski. “I was sure that our employees shared this concern and created Comfort for a Cause to give them a way to support people and organizations in the communities we serve. Employees have wholeheartedly embraced our culture of giving.”

Last holiday season some of the Comfort for a Cause funds were used to purchase toys for a Manchester area Toys for Tots program that was experiencing a toy shortage. Two teams of Ride-Away employees helped Toys for Tots sort through toys, and many employees donated additional toys and money. Employees at all Ride-Away locations also participate in holiday donation programs at local food banks, and some are involved with Team Diversity, a group that Kuczewski initiated that sends Ride-Away staff into elementary schools to discuss acceptance of people with disabilities.

“Improving the lives of others and taking an active role in the community is vitally important,” says Kuczewski. “I’m honored to have received the Young Professional of the Year award so we can bring attention to Ride-Away’s commitment to giving back and helping others.” As a mother of three boys who was largely responsible for raising herself, she well understands the unexpected challenges that life can throw someone’s way.

Kuczewski practices what she preaches about the importance of giving back. She serves on the board of The Way Home, a Manchester nonprofit organization focused on eliminating homelessness. She quickly identified the organization’s need for a wheelchair-accessible van and facilitated its donation, as well as many other initiatives that have allowed the organization to help more people in need.

“Jaime has a passion for helping people gain skills and the resources to help themselves and to help others,” says Mary Sliney, executive director of The Way Home, noting that Kuczewski has sponsored a woman with disabilities and helped The Way Home furnish her apartment.

Ride-Away’s donation of a multi-purpose wheelchair van has allowed The Way Home to transport families so they can access community services. The van also lets the organization pick up donated items to furnish the apartments of formerly homeless families. Comfort for a Cause funds have been used to purchase gift cards to support the needs of The Way Home clients, as well as clients of many other non-profit organizations.

“As a young professional, Jaime stands out as an individual who represents the direction that young professional people should go,” says James Freiburger, board chair of The Way Home. He adds that she brings empathy and an understanding of the organization’s mission and fundraising needs that many other young professional have not yet developed.

“In these difficult economic times it is more important than ever that individuals and companies step forward to help charitable organizations meet the needs of those they serve,” says Kuczewski. “Ride-Away prides itself on supporting organizations in local communities, and I feel very fortunate to play a role in this.”

Ride-Away Mobility Consultants Receive Award for Dedication to Persons with Disabilities
12-01-2010
Enhanced Life Options Group presented an Award of Appreciation to Eric and Roger Lajeunesse for their outstanding work with persons with disabilities.

Concord, NH (Vocus/PRWEB) December 01, 2010

Enhanced Life Options Group marked the launch of a new program for individuals with disabilities by recognizing two mobility consultants from Ride-Away of Londonderry. This company is the nation’s largest provider of wheelchair-accessible vehicles and adaptive equipment for people with disabilities. Brothers Eric and Roger Lajeunesse were presented with an Award of Appreciation by Nina Hamberger, director of Enhanced Life Options Group, during a recent event at the Centennial Inn in Concord.

“Eric and Roger treat individuals with disabilities like gold and make them feel very special,” says Hamberger about selecting the pair for the award. “Transportation is very important to someone with a physical disability and their service to these individuals and their families is exceptional.”

Enhanced Life Options Group, which provides trust-related services to the disabilities community, made the award in conjunction with its new master-pooled trust program with Charter Trust Company. This year’s award marks only the third time the group has made such an award in the past 12 years.

“Before, the Award of Appreciation has gone to a large company or organization, not to an individual or several individuals, which makes the award that much more meaningful for the Lajeunesse brothers to have received it,” says Mark Lore, Ride-Away president and CEO. “It’s quite remarkable that two individuals can have such a large impact on the lives of people with disabilities.”

Eric Lajeunesse has worked at Ride-Away’s Londonderry location for nearly nine years, while his brother Roger has been with the company almost seven. During this time, both have embraced Ride-Away’s 10 commandments of exceptional customer service developed by Lore. The brothers embody this company commitment to helping individuals with disabilities, both at the office and after hours.

Eric’s office door, covered in photos and letters from satisfied clients, speaks volumes about how much his efforts mean to individuals with disabilities. “When people ask what I do, I say, ‘I give people their independence back. I change their lives,’” he explains. “That makes it all worthwhile.”

He also helps out at Compassionate Care ALS events and has helped organized spring and fall clean-ups at the Moore Center, an organization that serves individuals with disabilities. One of his clients oversees a baseball league for children with physical and developmental disabilities, and on a recent weekend Eric watched a game and brought water, juice and snacks for the players. “It feels really good to be out there doing these things,” he says.

“If Ride-Away wasn’t there to help some of these individuals, there would be no help for them in gaining their independence,” Roger adds. “I listen and make sure they get what they want. Some people think we’re car salespeople, but we’re not that at all. We’re here to take care of our clients’ very specific needs.”

Roger takes his commitment to helping individuals with disabilities to the streets and the ski slopes. This year he organized and supported four fundraising walks for the Northern New England Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and participates each year in the Veterans Administration’s disabled skiers program at Mt. Sunapee. He also supports Northeast Passage, a University of New Hampshire-based program that helps individuals with disabilities be involved in an array of sports.

In addition to providing hands-on support to these organizations and individuals with disabilities, Eric, Roger and other Ride-Away staff provide financial support as well. Last year a client was struggling to afford a wheelchair-accessible van and Christmas gifts for her five children. The local Ride-Away staff raised considerable funds for holiday gifts and gift cards for the family.

This spirit of giving is consistent throughout all 12 Ride-Away locations. Lore and staff at the Tampa, Florida, office recently presented the keys to a donated full-size wheelchair van to a man paralyzed as a result of a motorcycle accident. During the summer, a similar van donation was made to the family of a 13-year-old N.H. boy who has lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy since age 4.

“As a company we take great pride in helping individuals with disabilities enjoy the freedom of mobility and in providing the highest quality products and customer service,” says Lore. “Eric and Roger’s commitment to their clients and to being involved in the community reflect Ride-Away’s ongoing mission. We are very proud of them for being recognized by Enhanced Life Options Group with this very special Award of Appreciation.”

Good News Garage NH and Ride-Away Provide Wheelchair Accessible Van
11-24-2010
Most of us take our independence for granted, but not Rita Gravel of Manchester who recently regained her freedom thanks to a donated wheelchair van provided by Ride-Away and Good News Garage NH.

Ride-Away, America's number one provider of modified vehicles and adaptive equipment and Good News Garage, a New England car donation non-profit, have teamed up to provide appropriate vehicles to low-income individuals with disabilities.

Rita, who has a nerve disorder and is confined to a wheelchair, received the keys to her donated van from Manchester Mayor, Ted Gatsas on Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Ride-Away offices in Londonderry, NH. This van, donated to Good News Garage NH by Ride-Away, will allow Rita to get to the store, to doctor’s appointments and to become an active member of her community; something she has been unable to do for over four years.

"I want to thank the folks at Ride-Away and Good News Garage for everything they have done. This van will change my life" said Rita after receiving her van keys.

While Good News Garage, a program of Lutheran Social Services, provides donated cars, vans and trucks to working individuals in need, the car charity will accept and award donated wheelchair vans when possible. In 2008, Good News Garage NH provided a wheelchair van to the Orton family of Gilford, NH providing them with safe and reliable transportation for their son.

Since 1996, more than 3,500 individuals have received a reliable, donated car, van or truck from Good News Garage. All cars provided by Good News Garage have been donated and qualify for a tax deduction. To donate a car, van or truck to Good News Garage visit: www.GoodNewsGarage.org or call toll-free: 877.GIVE.AUTO (448.3288). Good News Garage: Donate a car...Change a life!

Ride-Away Wins Freedom Sciences’ Eagle Award for Sales Success
11-23-2010

Ride-Away, America's top accessible wheelchair van provider, is the recipient of the Freedom Sciences Eagle Award for sales volume in 2009. Ride-Away President/CEO, Mark Lore, was presented with the award by Russ Panzarella, Freedom Sciences Northeast Regional Sales Manager, Ride-Away’s Norristown, PA location. The annual Eagle Award is the only dealer award that Freedom Sciences presents to qualifying dealerships based on annual sales achievement and Ride-Away is honored to have received this award for the second straight year.

Freedom Sciences develops and manufactures mobility equipment for wheelchair users and others with limited mobility. The company specializes in the creative application of technology to develop state-of-the-art products and solutions for people needing mobility assistance. Ride-Away carries Freedom Sciences' line of products that include fully articulating automotive seating systems, power chair lifts and ATRS (Automated Transport and Retrieval System).

"We require dealers to maintain previous year's annual sales at a minimum and award dealers based on sales achievement, typically our top dealers with significant sales volume," Todd Bick of Freedom Sciences said. "Freedom Sciences initiated the Eagle Award program in 2008 in which Ride-Away was also a winner."

Ride-Away sells only the highest quality wheelchair accessible mobility products and has always believed in providing their customers with the safest, highest quality adaptive mobility equipment available. For example, this past February, Ride-Away donated a full size wheelchair accessible van to The Way Home, an award winning non-profit organization, based out of Manchester, NH, that provides an integrated approach to success in safe and affordable housing.

Their previous wheelchair accessible vehicle was a 1997 Dodge Caravan that they had been using for over 10 years, and was in need of major repairs and remodeling. Due to financial constraints, it was not possible to have the necessary repairs done to the vehicle, so Ride-Away decided that instead of letting them drive around in their current vehicle that they would step in and deliver them a vehicle that would allow them to safely transport their clients.

During an emotional donation ceremony at Ride-Away’s Corporate Offices in Londonderry, NH, Ride-Away’s Vice President, Jaime Kuczewski, and General Manager, Matt Laughlin, handed off the keys to a full size Ford E350 wheelchair accessible van that is equipped with a RICON 1200 Series wheelchair lift, to Mary Sliney, Executive Director for The Way Home. Now, their clients are able to get to and from meetings, job interviews, and visits with families and friends, safely.

"Freedom Sciences has been very loyal to Ride-Away and has a proven track record of producing high quality adaptive mobility products," says Mark Lore, President/CEO of Ride-Away. "Our commitment to providing the highest quality products and services to our customers is possible because of Freedom Sciences dedication to making sure that their products are safe and reliable."

Ride-Away is not only honored to have received the Eagle Award again, but they are proud to work with a company that shares many of the same philosophies and core values – providing high quality, reliable mobility equipment to individuals with disabilities and their families.

If you are not able to make the game, you can get the full re-cap at the Wheelchair Sports Federation website. Click here to see the game flyer for more information.
